The Columbus Blue Jackets promoted goaltender Mike McKenna from Springfield of the AHL on Wednesday and assigned forward Michael Chaput to Springfield.
Columbus recalled McKenna following the injury to starter Sergei Bobrovsky. McKenna will back up Curtis McElhinney. Bobrovsky sustained a lower-body injury during the third period of Tuesday night's 1-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
McKenna is 4-9-1 with a 3.49 goals against average and .887 save percentage in 17 career NHL games with Tampa Bay and the New Jersey Devils.
Chaput had an assist and two penalty minutes in 17 games with Columbus.
