Blue Jackets' Bobrovsky signs with KHL team
Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has signed with SKA St. Petersburg, a Russian team in the Kontinental Hockey League.
Bobrovsky, 24, is the latest hockey player to sign overseas amid the National Hockey League work stoppage.
"As soon as lockout was declared, we started negotiations [with SKA management] and, thankfully, have come to an agreement," Bobrovsky told reporters. "Frankly, I don't know whether SKA has problems with goaltenders, it's hard to judge. We'll play and we'll see, I'll try to show my best hockey."
Bobrovsky was traded to Columbus in June after two seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. He began his career with Metallurg Novokuznetsk before joining the NHL in 2010.
With SKA, he will join New Jersey Devils star Ilya Kovalchuk and St. Louis Blues wing Vladimir Tarasenko, who is expected to sign later Friday. KHL regulations allow each team to sign a maximum of three players from the North American league.
