BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Columbus Blue Jackets scored three first-period goals en route to a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres in front of an announced crowd of 18,210 on Thursday night at First Niagara Center.

Marian Gaborik had a goal and two points for the Blue Jackets (2-1-0), who won their second straight game.

Columbus opened the scoring 1:51 into the game when Cam Atkinson tapped in his first goal of the season. He found a rebound to the right of Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller after a Gaborik shot from the slot, tipping it past Miller in front of a lunging Sabres defense.

After a Thomas Vanek goal made it 1-1, Nick Foligno scored for Columbus when a centering pass deflected off two Sabres defensemen and found its way past Miller. The pass went off Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers' stick as well as Mike Weber's skate before trickling past a helpless Miller.

Gaborik added a goal on a two-on-one at 16:35 of the first period to give Columbus a 3-1 lead. He took a feed from Ryan Johansen and one-timed a shot past Miller for his second goal of the season as Weber slid into the Sabres' net.

Brandon Dubinsky added his first goal of the season for the Blue Jackets in the second period, finding a David Savard rebound in front and backhanding it past Miller.

Buffalo struggled defensively to contain the Blue Jackets' top line of Gaborik, Atkinson and Dubinsky.

The Sabres (0-4-1) remained winless.

Vanek's goal at 8:50 in the first period came on a nifty shot. The left winger accepted a pass from Steve Ott through his legs, then lifted the puck past Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

Bobrovsky made 23 saves in his his second win of the season. Miller stopped 29 shots in his season debut after missing two games with a groin injury.
