Blanc: PSG no longer interested in Rooney

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has poured cold water on the lingering speculation linking the club with Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

Following the acquisition of Edinson Cavani from Napoli for 63 million euros, Blanc stated he feels well stocked up front and would only add a midfielder if the French outfit returned to the transfer market.

"Wayne Rooney is a magnificent player but we're very well covered in attack," Blanc told reporters. "We have to see what we can do in midfield. If there is another arrival, it will be in this sector"

Rooney has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with PSG, Arsenal and Chelsea seen as the frontrunners for the 27-year-old's signature. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said Wednesday that Rooney was always a back-up option to Cavani.

United, meanwhile, rejected an opening bid from Chelsea for the wantaway striker as the two London clubs battle for Rooney's services. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho confirmed that Rooney remains the Blues' only transfer target this summer, while Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insisted that Arsenal could afford to take on the England international's wages.
