Blackhawks trade for minor-league defensemen

The SportsXchange

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired minor-league defensemen David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois in a trade with the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday for a second-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

The 23-year-old Rundblad, who was the 17th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, had one point in 12 games for the Coyotes this season and nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 50 career games.

Rundblad played on Sweden's silver medalists in the 2011 World Championships and for silver and bronze medalists in the World Junior Championships.

Brisebois had four points in 28 games for the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League this season. The Coyotes signed him as an undrafted free agent last year.

Rundblad will report to the Blackhawks and Brisebois will go to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
