Blackhawks' Bollig suspended 2 games for boarding Wild's Ballard

The SportsXchange

Chicago Blackhawks forward Brandon Bollig was suspended two games for boarding Minnesota Wild defenseman Keith Ballard during Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinal series, it was announced by the NHL on Saturday.

Bollig, who earned a minor boarding penalty after a hit from behind into the corner boards in the second period of Game 4 on Friday, had a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety prior to the suspension being announced.

"Bollig (was) in control of this check throughout the play," the NHL said in a video explaining the ruling. "The onus is entirely on Bollig to ensure that he avoids this check completely or, at the very least, attempts to minimize contact. He does neither. Instead, Bollig loads up and delivers a forceful blow through Ballard's back."

Bollig, who averages just over six minutes of ice time per game, is pointless in nine games with a minus-3 rating.

Ballard did not return to the game after the hit and is not expected to play Game 5.
