The Buffalo Bills announced Monday that they traded linebacker Kelvin Sheppard to the Indianapolis Colts for linebacker Jerry Hughes.
Sheppard was a third round draft choice of the Bills in 2011. He had 80 tackles (56 solo) and 2.0 sacks last year. In his rookie season, Sheppard had 70 tackles (46 solo) and a fumble recovery. He has started 24 of the 32 games he has played.
Hughes started six of the 16 games he played last year for the Colts. He had 41 tackles (29 solo), including a career-high 4.0 sacks and one pass break-up.
Hughes was a first round draft pick (No. 31 overall) of the Colts in 2010. He has played 40 games (seven starts) and totaled 62 tackles (41 solo) and 5.0 sacks in his career.
Also, the Bills released quarterback Aaron Corp, offensive tackle Adam Grant, kicker Chris Koepplin and tight end Joe Sawyer.
Corp was expendable after the team drafted E.J. Manuel over the weekend and has Kevin Kolb and Tarvaris Jackson on the roster.
