Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus left the team to return to Birmingham after learning his younger brother, 19-year-old Simeon Gilmore, was a victim in a triple homicide in Pelham, Ala.

The incident took place Sunday in a residence and 22-year-olds Casey Cumberland and Joshua Smith were also victims according to CBS 42 in Birmingham.

Dareus' status for Sunday's game against the Chiefs is not known.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 draft, the former Alabama star was raised in part by his godfather, Lester "Sarge" Reasor. He became the legal guardian to Dareus and five other children in the family with Dareus' mother died two years ago after a long battle with numerous health issues.
