Bill Maher Urges Media to Fight Back Against President Trump (Video)
HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” panelists addressed whether the media industry is obliged to fight back against President Trump, who often refers to the press as the “opposition party.” Maher feels that “for the sake of the Republic” the press has to win its “respect back.”
“Now that polls find the news media less trustworthy than Donald Trump, they have to fight to get their reputation back and there are encouraging signs,” Maher said. “The New York Times no longer shies away from saying Trump lies on the front page.”
On Friday, Trump bashed the media during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference and then the White House blocked reporters from a variety of major news organizations were attending a briefing with Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Trump’s war on the media continues to escalate daily, but Maher has found some positive developments.
“Scott Pelley of CBS, who I do not like, I do not, made me like him one night when he started a broadcast like this,” Maher said before playing a clip of the “CBS Evening News” anchor mocking Trump as “divorced from reality.”
Maher also pointed out that NBC News’ Chuck Todd told Kellyanne Conway that she was spreading falsehoods and ABC’s George Stephanopoulos “kicking little Stephen Miller’s balls up into his chest cavity.”

“We’re going to need a lot more of this,” Maher said, because for the press to be effective it needs to be more trusted by the American people.
“Can you imagine how this must make a reporter feel? To be losing a truthfulness contest with Donald Trump. Its like losing a rap battle to Mitt Romney,” Maher said after showing statistics that more people trust the president. “Donald Trump is the apotheosis of the alt-right and the media gave him the biggest platform ever.”
The “Real Time” host said the news media has lost trust because it became “eyeball-chasing, click bait whores” and urged reporters to get more serious about holding Trump accountable.
