COMMENTARY | Bill Belichick usually doesn't give the media any juicy quotes for stories. He's a fairly quiet guy who spends all of his energy game planning and looking miserable in a hooded sweatshirt. In a world full of coaches and athletes that love to say whatever they can to get into the headlines, Belichick is awfully boring. Successful, but boring.
The New England Patriots will square off against the Cleveland Browns in Week 14, with whom Belichick has some history. He coached the Browns for a few years without much success before eventually becoming the head coach of the Patriots. While reflecting a little bit on his time in Cleveland, Bill found a way to take a pretty funny dig at the New York Jets, where he was the head coach for just one day.
You can read all of the quotes over at the Boston Herald, where Belichick describes his feelings toward previous employers. The conversation changes when he brings up the Jets, where he says "I feel differently about the Jets. We won't put them in that category."
Well, alright then.
It's clear that Belichick isn't particularly fond of the Jets, particularly since Rex Ryan came to town and started running his mouth. They've been New England's most consistent threat within the AFC East in recent memory, particularly when the Jets made two consecutive AFC Championship games. Still, a large part of this is that the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins have done very little during this time.
Belichick joined the Patriots as head coach after quitting on the Jets and hasn't looked back since. He's won three championships, been to five Super Bowls, and has been instrumental to one of the most consistent franchises in the NFL. The Jets haven't done much, so it's fair to say Belichick made the right decision.
It's nice to see Belichick act like a human being with real emotions once in a while, and it's even better when it comes at the expense of the New York Jets.
