Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Bigger guarantee couldn't lure Winfield back to Vikings

National Football Post

Antoine Winfield picked the Seattle Seahawks but it wasn’t about the money.

The veteran cornerback agreed to a one-year contract with the Seahawks on Friday, turning down an offer to return to the Minnesota Vikings, who offered him a greater guarantee.

According to Ian Rapoport of, the Seahawks will sign Winfield to a $3 million deal with $1 million guaranteed. The Vikings put a similar offer on the table but their proposal was fully guaranteed.

The Vikings released Winfield just prior to the opening of free agency in what was somewhat of a surprise move. The 35-year-old had a fine season for the club last year but he was set to earn $7.25 million this coming season, and ultimately the Vikings made a business decision.

Minnesota was dogged in its pursuit of Winfield with coach Leslie Frazier maintaining regular contact with him. Ultimately, a bigger guarantee couldn’t lure Winfield back.
