The Big East has reached an agreement with seven departing basketball members that will allow them to separate from the football schools and create their own conference on July 1. Commissioner Mike Aresco told The Associated Press on Friday the seven Catholic schools that are leaving to form a basketball-centric conference will get the Big East name, along with the opportunity to play their league tournament in Madison Square Garden. CHICAGO (AP) -- The Big East has moved its postseason women's basketball tournament to Chicago, the conference announced Tuesday.

The first-round games will be at DePaul's campus on March 8 with the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals at the Allstate Arena over the next three days.

The conference, which underwent a major membership change in the offseason, had played its tournament in Hartford for the past 10 years. The men's tournament will remain in New York at Madison Square Garden.
