Beyonce will perform at Super Bowl halftime

It'll be three months until the teams involved are known, but one Super Bowl participant has already been confirmed.

Beyonce will perform at halftime, the NFL announced Tuesday. On her blog, the singer posted a picture of herself with eye-black strips that read "FEB 3" and "2013."

Super Bowl XLVII will be played Feb. 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Beyonce has won 16 Grammy awards and has been nominated 43 times. The Houston native, formerly known as Beyonce Knowles, gained fame while a member of the girl group Destiny's Child before branching into a solo career and an acting career.

Notable movie appearances have included "Austin Powers in Goldmember" and "Dreamgirls."

Last season's Super Bowl halftime entertainment was headlined by Madonna, but the most talked-about part of the performance might have been English singer/rapper M.I.A. flashing her middle finger at the camera.

Other recent musical acts that have performed during the NFL's title game have included The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.
