Bethe Correia on Ronda Rousey Title Fight: ‘I Don’t See Anyone Who Deserves It More Than I Do’

Bethe Correia on Ronda Rousey Title Fight: ‘I Don’t See Anyone Who Deserves It More Than I Do’

Undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight contender Bethe Correia (9-0) has been calling out reigning champion Ronda Rousey (11-0) since her arrival in the UFC in December 2013.

After defeating veteran Julie Kedzie in her promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 33, Correia convincingly beat two of Rousey’s training partners: Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler. Following each win, she targeted Rousey in her post-fight interview.

At UFC 190 on Aug. 1, Correia will get the title fight she’s been asking for, but some believe the Brazilian talked her way into title contention.

“I’ve won my fights fighting. I didn’t do it talking. I fought,” said Correia during a recent press conference announcing the event.

“Who at this moment deserves the fight more than I do? The only person in the UFC that has three wins in a row who hasn’t had a chance, who has asked for it, it’s me. I don’t see any other person in the UFC who deserves it more than I do,” she added.

Only one of the two unbeaten fighters will emerge from the fight with their undefeated record intact, and Correia is convinced it will be her.

“I’m going to beat Ronda. I’m going to make her feel the weight of my hand,” said Correia. “She gets away from striking. She doesn’t like it. You’ve never seen Ronda get jabbed in a fight. She’s going to try to get away from me.”

UFC 190 takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. It will be the first time Rousey has fought in Brazil in her mixed martial arts career.
