Bethe Correia and Marion Reneau Fight to Majority Draw (UFC Fortaleza Results)

Ninth-ranked women's bantamweight Bethe Correia was hoping to pick up a win over No. 13 ranked Manrion Reneau in her home country of Brazil on Saturday while Reneau was looking to rise up the women's 135-pound rankings with a win over the former title challen ger. Neither accomplished what they set out to.

Reneau employed a kicking game against the heavy-handed Brazilian in the early going. Correia landed counter right hands off the kicks, but the body shots were starting to add up by the end of the frame. In the closing moments of the round, Correia took Reneau down. She was unable to inflict much damage, but ended the frame in top position.

Correia came out aggressive in the second round. She pressed forward and landed combinations. She mixed up her attack, landing punches, leg kicks and an uppercut that snapped Reneau's head back. Correia found her range and began landing with regularity. With 90 seconds left in the round, Correia took Reneau down and maintained top control for the remainder of the frame.

In the opening moments of the final frame, Reneau landed a head kick that wobbled Correia. After absorbing follow-up shots, Correia desperately tried to get the fight to the ground. Reneau sprawled and delivered a heavy dose of punches and elbows. She mounted Correia and continued to land shots. Correia rolled, giving up her back, but was unable to get out of the bad position. The final round was dominated by Reneau.

After the fight, Correia celebrated as if she had won. When the judges scorecards were read, the bout was declared a majority draw. The judges scored the fight 27-29, 28-28, and 28-28.
