Best XI: Week 30

Wow, what a weekend. From a Harry Kane hat-trick to Steven Gerrard’s one minute appearance to Arsenal hanging tight to a 1-2 lead, there wasn’t a shortage of story-lines to explore. On top of giving you the Best XI, I’ll comment more thoroughly on Harry Kane and whether he’s worth owning after this huge performance. I’ll also explore Wes Morgan’s second time in the Best XI and will drop a line or two on Olivier Giroud. Before we get too in depth, check out the complete Best XI for week 30:

We had a fantastic week that finished with 246 points, but after all those goals, are we really surprised?

Cost

This week the BEST XI cost £ 95.65M*. The new price of our Best XI (if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 127.32M. That’s a 33.1% increase in price.

*Keep in mind the cost does NOT include any substitutes and is thus 96M instead of 100M, which assumes one might have four £ 1M substitutes.

MVP

This week’s MVP was obviously Harry Kane. The Tottenham striker is absolutely on fire at the moment and was critical in Spurs’ 4-3 win over Leicester City. The hat-trick was icing on the cake after a fantastic performance and we should expect more of the same for Kane. The problem I have here is that Kane now costs £ 21.66M, which is 21.66% of the salary cap. Spending 21.66% of your salary cap on one player is never a good idea, especially when you have a 15-man roster to fill out with all the subs. It would be almost impossible to bring in Kane now and you’d have to make a number of sacrifices to be able to afford him. Unless you have him at a discount, I would avoid.

3-4-3 this week again. This is a clear trend for the season and I don’t expect it to change anytime soon.

Repeat Offenders

Kane is expensive, but Wes Morgan isn’t. The Leicester City defender has now put up 9, 13, and 20 points in the last three weeks. That’s mightily impressive. This week Morgan scored a goal while last week he had a clean sheet, both of which were huge towards his Best XI appearances, but he has also provided a number of phantom points to be worth his price even without the goal and clean sheet. He is far from a must own player, in fact, I wouldn’t even roster him against above average teams, but he is an option against bottom dwellers considering he is only 1.44% owned and can provide high upside. Hopefully he’ll join this list next week.

Team Rankings

Arsenals just continue dominating this list. They have a number of players who can go off on any given week and keep a number of clean sheets that help their defenders rack up points as well. Olivier Giroud is on a great streak right now and is my pick for Arsenal players to own going forward.
