Benson Henderson Steps in for Bobby Green at UFC Fight Night 63

Former UFC Champ Benson Henderson to Challenge for Bellator Belt in First Fight

It’s not quite the two-week turn that Donald Cerrone made to face him, but Benson Henderson on Thursday agreed to return to the Octagon in short order to fill-in for an injured Bobby Green at UFC Fight Night 63 in Virginia.

Green had been slated to face Jorge Masvidal on the April 4 fight card, but has been forced out of the fight due to a torn quadriceps muscle, according to UFC officials, who also announced Henderson as Masvidal’s new opponent.

Henderson (21-5) was fired up and ready to get right back in the Octagon after a controversial unanimous-decision loss to Cerrone at UFC Fight Night 59 on Sunday. The loss was made it the first time in Henderson’s career that he suffered back-to-back defeats.

Only a year-and-a-half removed from having held the UFC lightweight championship, Henderson wants to waste no time correcting his career course. He'll get the opportunity to get right back into fight mode, making a two-month turnaround.

Masvidal (28-8), however, is not an easy fight for anyone. He has won five out of his six UFC bouts, including his three most recent outings, with victories over Pat Healy, Daron Cruickshank, and James Krause.

A featherweight contender’s bout between Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas headlines UFC Fight Night 63, with the main card airing at a special start time of 1 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 in the United States.
