Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Beckett hears boos again after another poor start

The SportsXchange

Josh Beckett returned to the Boston Red Sox's rotation with a bang.

Actually, three bangs.

Making his first start since July 31 after being slowed by back spasms, Beckett allowed three homers and a season-high eight runs and got a no-decision Wednesday in Boston's 10-9 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Beckett had gone 12 starts without allowing a home run. But as he walked off the mound Wednesday, he was booed by another sellout crowd at Fenway Park.

"I want to pitch good and help these guys because they're battling their (rear) off," Beckett said after giving up the most runs he has allowed in a start since May 7, 2010, against the Yankees.

Beckett was removed from his previous start due to back spasms, and then he was skipped in the rotation. The Red Sox have not made any announcement about Beckett's next start, tentatively slated for next week in Baltimore, although it's possible he could land on the disabled list, especially with six starters in the rotation.

For what it's worth, Beckett denied that his back was an issue Wednesday.

"Nobody here is 100 percent," Beckett said. "Last time most of these guys were 100 percent, we were 16 years old. That's just the way it is. Nobody goes through a full year without having bumps and bruises. We worked hard in the last seven days to get my back (healthy) because I was locked up for a couple of days. The training staff did an unbelievable job. I felt healthy out there; the results just sucked."

It marked the third time this season that Beckett has allowed seven or more runs. He is 5-9 with a 4.97 ERA, and the Sox are now 7-12 in his 19 starts.

Asked about the boos and whether they bothered him, Beckett said, "I can't control that."

"It's tough," Beckett added. "It would be better if we were winning two out of every three games. These are the guys I have to come to work with every day, and it's been tough on all of us."
