Beckenbauer: Hoeness has Bayern backing

Franz Beckenbauer believes Bayern Munich's decision to reject the resignation of club president Uli Hoeness is a resounding vote-of-confidence for the official.

The 61-year-old's offer to quit is widely believed to be linked to Hoeness being investigated for self-confessed tax evasion, an admission which has prompted a number of die Roten sponsors to hold private investigations.

However, chief executives at Audi, Adidas and Volkswagen all have a seat on the club's supervisory board and were unanimous in their voting which lead to the denied proposal.

Club legend Beckenbauer believes the decision to deny Hoeness' request is an indication of the support the former player has at the club.

"It speaks volumes for Uli that the board has rejected his offer. It is a great vote of confidence and I really hope he emerges unscathed from his tax affair," Beckenbauer told Image.

Matters on the field have prompted headlines for the right reasons as of late with the club aiming to win a treble of major honours this season.

Jupp Heynckes' men have sealed the Bundesliga title and face rival Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final on May 25 before turning their attentions to Stuttgart and the final of the DFB-Pokal on June 1.
