The Bears announced Thursday that they have waived hard-hitting S Winston Venable.
Venable, who signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State before last season, played in 12 games in 2011 and tied for fifth on the team in special-teams tackles with 10.
The way we see it
Venable was limited to a special-teams role — the coaching staff didn't view him as a legitimate contender for reps at safety — and the Bears like their depth at safety with Chris Conte, Major Wright, rookie Brandon Hardin, Craig Steltz, Anthony Walters and two undrafted rookies signed this week — Trevor Coston and Jeremy Jones — on the roster.
