With an infusion of bright young talent on its way to Chicago, more veterans will be on notice before the season commences. So, here are three more Bears that could find themselves victims of Ryan Pace’s ongoing roster purge.

Bears: More veterans on the bubble

1. Lamarr Houston – Outside Linebacker

Former GM Phil Emery signed Houston to a five year, $35 million deal in the hope that Houston would provide the edge rusher that the Bears desperately needed.

However, Chicago has significantly invested a lot in the position over the past year by signing Pernell McPhee and drafting Leonard Floyd, which makes Houston is an endangered species. Chicago could cut him to open up more playing time for Floyd while still utilizing Willie Young as a designated pass rusher on third downs.

2. Jacquizz Rodgers – Running Back

The Bears are incredibly young in the backfield with Jeremy Langford, Kadeem Carey and 5th round pick Jordan Howard so it may be sensible to keep Rodgers around as a veteran, reliable back. Rodgers was the back-up to Matt Forte early on last year before an injury in week five against the Chiefs landed the former Falcon on injury reserve.

Rodgers averaged just 2.9 yards per carry before the injury and Pace may once again choose to get younger at the position. He already has five years of tread on his tires and does not have the upside of the younger backs.

Only his special teams experience may save him.

3. Robbie Gould – Kicker

Robbie Gould is the all-time leader in points for Chicago and has shown impressive accuracy and leg strength despite the oft Baltic temperatures in northern Illinois.

However, this past season Gould looked a shell of his former self, missing two crucial kicks with games on the line along the way to his worst season as a professional. Gould’s current deals lasts through the 2017 season but if John Fox decides to bring in competition into camp, Gould’s position will be in question.
