Bears sign QB Palmer, DT Foster

The SportsXchange

The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Jordan Palmer and defensive tackle Eric Foster, and waived defensive lineman Jamaal Anderson and linebacker Andrew Starks, the team announced Saturday.

The Bears are looking for a third quarterback after Matt Blanchard fractured a knuckle on his non-throwing hand during Thursday's preseason win over the San Diego Chargers.

Palmer is the brother of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer. He was a sixth round draft pick of the Washington Redskins in 2007. He played three games with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008 and one in 2010, completing 10 of 15 passes for 49 yards with two interceptions. He was with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season but did not appear in a game.

Foster appeared in 49 games with 19 starts over four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts (2008-11) after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers. He had 117 tackles, six sacks, four pass break ups, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Anderson was signed by the Bears less than a month ago when Sedrick Ellis retired.

Anderson has been a disappointment since being taken No. 8 overall in the 2007 draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He started 48 of 77 games played with the Falcons (2007-10), Indianapolis Colts (2011) and Cincinnati Bengals (2012). He has 132 career tackles and just 7 1/2 sacks.

Starks, a rookie, had 298 tackles, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 39 games over four years at Princeton. He combined for 176 tackles his junior and senior seasons and was named All-Ivy League Second Team both years.
