Bears sign QB Palmer

The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Jordan Palmer to the active roster to provide depth with Jay Cutler out at least four weeks with a groin injury.

The team also signed linebacker Larry Grant to the active roster, added cornerback C.J. Wilson to the practice squad after he cleared waivers and signed wide receiver Terrence Toliver to the practice squad. Wide receiver Ricardo Lockette had his practice squad contract terminted.

Palmer was one of the backups for the final two preseason games, accumulating a 103 passer rating on 12 of 18 passing for 116 yards and a touchdown.

His only NFL regular-season playing time came with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2008-10. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 59 yards. The Bears had decided not to keep three quarterbacks when the season started and Palmer was cut.

They had brought him in after an injury to former third-string quarterback Matt Blanchard, who was later waived.
