The Bears trimmed their roster to 76 players on Sunday, then cut RB Harvey Unga on Monday to comply with the league-mandated first cut-down date.
Rookie S Brandon Hardin, a third-round pick, was placed on injured reserve after suffering a neck injury in the Bears' second preseason game. WR Johnny Knox was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list and will not be eligible to return to the active roster until late October. Knox is working to return from December spinal fusion surgery.
The Bears terminated the contract of veteran DT John McCargo and waived/injured LB Adrien Cole and OG Nick Pieschel. LB K.C. Asiodu, QB Matt Blanchard, S Trevor Coston, WR Terriun Crump, WR Chris Summers and DE Derek Walker were also waived.
Unga, whom the team selected in the seventh round of the 2010 supplemental draft, never played a regular-season game for Chicago.
