Bears' Gould out for season

Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould will miss the rest of the season with a strained his left calf.

The team placed Gould on injured reserve Tuesday and signed veteran kicker Olindo Mare to a one-year deal. They also placed cornerback Sherrick McManis (knee) and safety Craig Steltz (chest) on IR while signing linebacker Jerry Franklin for two years.

Gould strained his left calf during warm-ups before Sunday's loss at Minnesota, leaving punter Adam Podlesh for kickoffs. Gould kicked two extra points, but didn't attempt a long field goal late in the first quarter.

Chicago has lost four of five after starting the season 7-1, and trail Green Bay by a game in the NFC North. The teams play each other at Soldier Field on Sunday.

Gould ranks fourth all-time in the NFL at 85.6 percent on field goals, and had converted 21 of 25 attempts this season. He will be replaced by Mare, a 15-year veteran and career 81.2 percent kicker.
