Bears' coaching search down to three

National Football Post

The Chicago Bears have reached a final three in their coaching search and could name a new coach as soon as Wednesday.

Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman will have second interviews with general manager Phil Emery, members of the McCaskey family and upper management at Halas Hall.

All three coaches have offensive backgrounds and Emery made it clear after firing Lovie Smith on Dec. 31 that he sought a coach who could turnaround what has been a longstanding problem on offense. The new coach may inherit some assistant coaches and it’s possible that defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli could remain in play for the Bears. He remains under contract through this season.

But special teams coordinator Dave Toub, one of 13 known candidates Emery intrerviewed for the job, appears headed elsewhere. Toub has interviewed for a special teams role with the Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs. All signs point to him joining the Chiefs and reuniting with coach Andy Reid, who gave him his first job in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2001.
