YEAR OF THE COACH:
FBC--PENN STATE'S NEW ERA
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Bill O'Brien would have had a tough enough job simply replacing Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno. NCAA sanctions leveled on Penn State following the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal have the Nittany Lions' new leader facing even more pressing challenges. With stoic resolve, O'Brien promises to train the focus on the future. Players, he said, will continue to focus on academics and reaching out to the community while taking on the responsibility of reaching out to children and child abuse organizations. FBC--MEYER'S BUCKEYES
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Urban Meyer won at Florida by spreading the field and letting a series of game-breaking runners, receivers and quarterbacks make things happen. Now he doesn't have nearly the firepower or the offensive threats as he did while winning two national titles with the Gators. But he doesn't intend to change his philosophy at Ohio State. FBC--NEW COACHES
Forget the players. College football fans might need a program to keep up with all the coaches starting new jobs this season. From big-names such as Rich Rodriguez and Mike Leach bringing their potent offenses to the Pac-12 to newbies such as Kyle Flood and Paul Chryst getting their first crack at running the show in the Big East, more than 20 percent of the teams in major college football have new leaders. The job has never been tougher, but it's certainly not scaring anyone away. By AP College Football Writer Ralph D. Russo. For use starting Friday.

TODAY'S BIGGEST RIVALRY:
LSU VS ALABAMA
Alabama and LSU are two of college football's juggernauts, with an embarrassment of riches in the form of All-Americans, blue-chip recruits and devout followers. The two national title contenders will have to find a way to coexist in the SEC West since neither team shows signs of backing down in this magnetic rivalry. Clear your calendar. Set your DVR.
