Baylor DB charged with misdemeanor assault

Baylor defensive back Ahmad Dixon turned himself into police on Thursday after a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to multiple reports.

Waco, Texas, police confirmed that Dixon had been charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from a Sept. 16 incident.

Dixon is alleged to have attacked a man he suspected of breaking into his apartment, police said, adding that the man was punched in the face and might have suffered a concussion.

Dixon also is alleged to have threatened the man if he contacted authorities, police said.

"We're aware of the situation and it will be handled internally, as is our practice," Baylor spokesman Heath Nielsen told ESPN on Friday.

Dixon has been a starter for three years. This season, he is third on the Bears with 17 tackles.

No. 19 Baylor (3-0) has a bye this week and plays host to West Virginia on Oct. 5 in Waco.
