'Battlefield Hardline' Release Date Gets Pushed Back
Electronic Arts announced plans to push Battlefield Hardline back to early 2015. The game was originally slated to hit shelves this October.
The move could prevent further damage to the franchise's already fragile reputation following the botched release of Battlefield 4 late last year, and it gives developer Visceral Games time to address concerns raised by players during the beta.
"[Feedback from the beta] spurred us to start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better," said DICE exec Karl Magnus Troedsson in a post on the official Battlefield website. "However, there was only one problem. We would need more time. Time that we didn't have if we decided to move forward with launching in just a couple of months."
Among the things the developer hopes to fix are the multiplayer experience, the story depth behind single-player mode, and stability. Troedsson added, "We are doing all of this for one reason. Because we want Battlefield Hardline to be the best game it can be and so that we can create the best environment for a smooth launch for our players."
Hardline will diverge from the military-based plot that characterized previous installments and adopt a cops-and-robbers theme. But the title won't be a complete departure, since players will still have access to military weapons during the game.
In related news, "Dragon's Teeth," the latest DLC for Battlefield 4 will be released July 29 for non-premium members.
