Baseball-Major League Baseball roundup

Aug 29 (The Sports Xchange) - New York Mets third baseman David Wright, who returned to the lineup Monday in his first major league game since April 14, is experiencing some stiffness in his right shoulder. Manager Terry Collins said Saturday that Wright's lower back is fine and the issue is just normal soreness that is to be expected after missing four months of the season. Wright was off Saturday against the Boston Red Sox after playing consecutive extra-inning games. Wright originally went on the disabled list with a strained hamstring and then was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. He missed 115 games before returning to the lineup Monday in Philadelphia. Wright played in Friday night's 6-4, 10-inning loss to the Red Sox in his first game at Citi Field since April. He received loud applause from the 39,401 present before popping out in the first inning. "Unbelievable. You kind of dream and you think and play it out in your mind, stepping into the batter's box the first time. This surpassed everything," said Wright, who finished 2-for-5. - - Vin Scully is coming back in 2016 for his 67th season as a baseball broadcaster. It was announced Friday night that the venerable Scully will be in the booth next season. Scully, 87, revealed his plans through comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who spread the news on video boards in Dodger Stadium using cue cards. The Baseball Hall of Famer's career started in 1950 with the Brooklyn Dodgers and has included 25 World Series, 12 All-Star games and three perfect games. He called Don Larsen's perfect game in the World Series in 1956, Hank Aaron's record-setting 715th home run and Sandy Koufax's four no-hitters. "I talked it over with my wife, Sandi, and my family and we've decided to do it again in 2016," Scully said in a statement. "There's no place like home ... and we look forward to being a part of it with all of our friends." Scully limits his schedule now to home games and select road games. - - Kansas City Royals left fielder Alex Gordon is continuing his rehab stint in Triple-A Omaha and likely will be part of September call-ups. "That's a reasonable expectation," Royals manager Ned Yost said. (Editing by Andrew Both)
