April 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Tuesday's Major League Baseball games. White Sox 10, Blue Jays 1 Chris Sale pitched eight innings, Avisail Garcia, Dioner Navarro and Adam Eaton hit home runs, and the Chicago White Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 10-1 on Tuesday. Sale, who matched a career best by winning his first five decisions to open the season, had a one-hitter until Edwin Encarnacion hit his third homer of the season with one out in the seventh inning. Sale (5-0), who had pitched 22 innings without allowing an earned run before Encarnacion's home run, also started the 2014 season 5-0. The White Sox left-hander allowed four hits, two walks and one run while striking out six as Chicago (15-6) extended their winning streak to five games. Athletics 5, Tigers 1 Rich Hill tossed seven shutout innings and Marcus Semien hit a two-run homer, leading Oakland past Detroit at Comerica Park. Hill (3-2), a journeyman left-hander on his seventh major league team, allowed just four singles and didn't issue a walk while striking out eight. He has recorded 37 strikeouts in his five starts and has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his starts. Rays 3, Orioles 1 Tampa Bay are back at .500 for the first time since the opening week of the season, winning their third straight game on Tuesday thanks to Kevin Kiermaier's two-run homer in a victory over Baltimore at Tropicana Field. The Rays got out of all kinds of jams -- turning three double plays, another runner picked off -- and received production from the bottom of the order for the second game in a row. Red Sox 11, Braves 4 David Price recovered from one of the worst starts of his career to match his career high with 14 strikeouts and help Boston hand Atlanta their seventh straight loss. Price did not resemble the same pitcher who allowed a career-high-tying eight earned runs in his last start. In improving his record to 3-0, Price pitched eight innings and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks. Mets 4, Reds 3 Pinch-hitter Yoenis Cespedes tied the score with a three-run homer on the first pitch he saw in four days and David Wright laced the go-ahead RBI single three batters later as New York stormed back in the seventh inning to beat Cincinnati at Citi Field. The Mets (12-7) have won four in a row and 10 of their last 12. The Reds have lost three straight and 11 of their last 15. Rangers 10, Yankees 1 It was only a matter of time before the Texas Rangers starting hitting and scoring runs again, according to their manager. That time came on Tuesday. The Rangers snapped a four-game losing streak while overpowering the New York Yankees 10-1 at Globe Life Park. Phillies 4, Nationals 3 Maikel Franco hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat Washington 4-3 Tuesday, ending the Nationals' eight-game home winning streak. The Franco double scored Andres Blanco, who doubled off Oliver Perez (1-1) for his third hit of the game. Franco came up limping after the hit but stayed in the game. Cardinals 8, Diamondbacks 2 St. Louis first baseman Brandon Moss had four hits, including a three-run homer, and Carlos Martinez pitched eight scoreless innings in the Cardinals' 8-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Tuesday. Moss' homer, his fifth of the season, capped a five-run inning that snapped a scoreless tie. He also doubled and scored in a three-run seventh inning and singled in the second and ninth innings. Pirates 9, Rockies 4 A day off revived Andrew McCutchen. The Pittsburgh center fielder hit three home runs and drove in five runs Tuesday night, leading the Pirates to a 9-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. It was McCutchen's second career three-homer game. The other was Aug. 1, 2009, against the Washington Nationals. He joined Hall of Famers Willie Stargell, Ralph Kiner and Roberto Clemente as the only Pirates to have multiple three-homer games. Cubs 4, Brewers 3 Addison Russell went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple in the sixth inning to help the Chicago Cubs to a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on a frigid Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. Russell's triple, his first of the season, drove in Kris Bryant and Ben Zobrist to break a 1-1 tie. Adam Warren (2-0) worked two relief innings and struck out three to pick up the win for the Cubs (15-5). The Brewers (8-12) dropped their fourth in five games. Twins 6, Indians 5 Miguel Sano's RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night at Target Field. Following a one-out double by Brian Dozier, Joe Mauer was intentionally walked, setting up Sano, who hit a 1-1 fastball off Indians closer Cody Allen (0-2) into center field. Giants 1, Padres 0 Johnny Cueto outdueled James Shields in a battle of former Kansas City Royals World Series aces Tuesday night, striking out 11 en route to a seven-hit shutout, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 1-0 victory over the San Diego Padres. Denard Span doubled home Brandon Crawford with the only run of the game in the fifth inning as the Giants won for the fourth time in five games after opening their current 10-game homestand with four consecutive losses. Mariners 11, Astros 1 Robinson Cano drove in six runs, and Nathan Karns threw seven scoreless innings as the Seattle Mariners pounded the Houston Astros 11-1 Tuesday night. Cano recorded his 1,000th career RBI with a two-run single in the fifth, and then he tagged on a seventh-inning grand slam that opened up a 9-0 lead. The slam was the 10th of Cano's career and his first since 2012. Marlins 6, Dodgers 3 Giancarlo Stanton homered for the third straight game, and the Miami Marlins rallied for a 6-3 victory over Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night before 41,102 at Dodger Stadium. Kershaw limited the Marlins to a second-inning triple by Marcell Ozuna before the Marlins (8-11), who won their third consecutive contest, tagged him for five runs in the sixth inning. Kershaw (2-1) gave up a season-high five runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks in seven innings for the Dodgers (12-9), who fell for the second night in a row to the Marlins. Kershaw also hit a batter. The Dodgers' ace drove in one of the team's three runs. Angels 9, Royals 4 Johnny Giavotella's three-run home run capped a five-run fifth inning, propelling the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-4 win over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night at Angel Stadium. It was Giavotella's first extra-base hit of the season, the second baseman struggling with a .136 average going into the game.
