(Adds later games) Sept 29 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights from Major League Baseball games on Tuesday: - - - - Dodgers 8, Giants 0 The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the National League West title Tuesday night, riding the one-hit shutout pitching of left-hander Clayton Kershaw to an 8-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Center fielder Enrique Hernandez, left fielder Justin Ruggiano and catcher A.J. Ellis hit solo home runs off Giants ace lefty Madison Bumgarner, powering the Dodgers to the 14th NL West crown in franchise history. The Dodgers will be making its third consecutive trip to the postseason, a franchise first. The loss formally ended the Giants' bid for consecutive World Series championships. - - - Angels 8, A's 1 Albert Pujols sparked a four-run fourth inning that propelled Los Angeles to its seventh win in a row, defeating Oakland at Angel Stadium. By the time the night was over, Pujols had three hits, three runs and an RBI. In all, the Angels had 14 hits, including two each from Erick Aybar, David Murphy, Freese and Johnny Giavotella. The resurgent Los Angeles offense scored seven of its eight runs with two outs. - - - Diamondbacks 4, Rockies 3 (11 innings) Pinch-hitter Phil Gosselin grounded a single to right field with the bases loaded and one out in the 11th inning to give Arizona a victory over Colorado at Chase Field. A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt drew four-pitch walks to open the 11th inning off Rockies right-hander Brooks Brown (1-3) before David Peralta walked to load the bases. - - - Brewers 4, Padres 3 Jean Segura hit a two-run homer off Tyson Ross in the seventh-inning to give Milwaukee a victory over San Diego at Petco Park -- presenting 22-year-old right-hander Jorge Lopez with a victory in his major league debut. Segura, who doubled home a run in the first inning, hit a 363-foot drive off the second balcony of the Western Metal Supply Co. building in left to erase a 3-2 Padres lead. Kris Davis had opened the inning with a single off Ross (10-12). - - - Mariners 6, Astros 4 Rookie Shawn O'Malley delivered a two-run, two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie and lead Seattle to a win while knocking Houston back in the American League playoff race. Houston fell a half-game behind Los Angeles in the race for the final AL wild-card spot. The Astros also dropped to 2 1/2 games behind Texas in AL West standings with just four games left on Houston's schedule. - - - Rays 4, Marlins 2 Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-2 win over the Miami Marlins. The Marlins had tied the game 2-2 in the top of the eighth when a single from third baseman Martin Prado scored center fielder Christian Yelich. Tampa's Brad Boxberger pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 39th save. - - Braves 2, Nationals 1 Catcher A.J. Pierzynski hit two solo home runs while pitcher Matt Wisler produced seven strong innings in the Atlanta Braves' win over the Washington Nationals. Wisler (7-8) was replaced after allowing a single to lead off the eighth. He allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out four. - - Phillies 4, Mets 3 First baseman Darin Ruf connected on a three-run home run in the first inning and the bullpen worked 4-1/3 effective innings to lead Philadelphia to victory over the New York Mets. Center fielder Odubel Herrera went 4-for-4 and left fielder Aaron Altherr drove in a run for the Phillies (60-97), who have the worst record in the majors. - - Red Sox 10, Yankees 4 Catcher Blake Swihart drove in five runs as the Boston Red Sox prevented the New York Yankees from inching closer to clinching a post-season berth with a 10-4 victory. Swihart hit a three-run home run in the first off Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda (12-9) to cap a six-run inning. He also connected off reliever Bryan Mitchell in the eighth. Center fielder Mookie Betts added a solo home run in the fifth as the Red Sox ran their winning streak to a season-high five games. - - White Sox 4, Royals 2 Jeff Samardzija allowed two runs in seven innings during the White Sox's 4-2 win against the Kansas City Royals. First baseman Jose Abreu went 2-for-4 with an RBI single while center fielder Adam Eaton went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer for the White Sox. - - Rangers 7, Tigers 6 Third baseman Adrian Beltre went 3-for-5 to lead the AL West Division-leading Texas Rangers to a badly needed 7-6 win over the Detroit Tigers. Left-hander Cole Hamels overcame early struggles for the Rangers, who snapped a three-game losing streak and lead the Houston Astros by two games and the Los Angeles Angels by 2-1/2 games pending their games later. Hamels (12-8) gave up six runs in six innings, as he allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out eight for Texas. - - Cubs 4, Reds 1 Dan Haren pitched seven shutout innings, and Miguel Montero sparked a four-run first with a two-run double, lifting Chicago to a victory over Cincinnati in the opener of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park. The first pitch was delayed two hours and 31 minutes by rain. When things finally got underway, Haren was in control throughout. The right-hander had five 1-2-3 innings and allowed just three hits. He did not walk a batter, and he fanned six. - - Indians, Twins rained out The scheduled game between Cleveland and Minnesota at Progressive Field was postponed due to rain. The teams will play a traditional doubleheader Wednesday. Entering the Tuesday night action, the Twins sat 1 1/2 games out of the second American League wild-card spot. The Indians were five games back. - - Blue Jays, Orioles rained out Another round of champagne will have to stay on ice for at least another day for Toronto. Their game against Baltimore was postponed because of rain. As a result, the teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday. - - Cardinals, Pirates rained out St Louis will to have to wait at least one more day before having a chance to clinch its third straight National League Central championship.
