Baseball-Highlights of Saturday's MLB games

May 7 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's Major League Baseball games: Dodgers 6, Blue Jays 2 Adrian Gonzalez added a two-run single for the Dodgers, who won for the third time in their past 11 games. The Dodgers, losers in their two previous games, turned three double plays behind Kershaw as they ended a season-best four-game winning streak by the Blue Jays. Kershaw allowed eight hits, no walks and two runs. The left-hander struck out 10 to reach double digits in strikeouts for the fourth start in a row. Giants 2, Padres 1 (13 innings) Matt Duffy doubled in Conor Gillaspie with two outs in the bottom of the 13th inning, lifting San Francisco over Colorado. The win was the Giants' second in four extra-inning games this season and was their second straight over the Rockies after having lost the series opener 17-7. Colorado fell to 0-2 in extra innings. Cardinals 6, Pirates 4 Matt Carpenter cracked a game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning as St. Louis beat Pittsburgh for its first victory in five attempts against the Pirates this season. Aledmys Diaz started the winning rally by beating out an infield single against A.J. Schugel. After Jeremy Hazelbaker's bid for a game-winning homer died at the wall in left center, Carpenter belted a 402-foot shot into the Cardinals' bullpen in right center for his fourth homer of the year. Cubs 8, Nationals 5 Addison Russell dropped a bases-loaded double down the right-field line for two go-ahead runs as Chicago went on to beat Washington and claim its eighth series win in nine tries. Russell broke the 5-5 tie with two out in the seventh inning of a see-saw game, sending Shawn Kelley's 2-2 pitch to right to score Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo for a 7-5 lead. The Cubs ran their winning streak to six and the Nationals suffered their third straight loss -- all to Chicago. Miller came in with a 8.49 ERA, but allowed just three runners over his final four innings after Freddie Freeman hit a first-inning homer. Yankees 8, Red Sox 2 Nathan Eovaldi pitched eight effective innings, holding David Ortiz hitless, and Didi Gregorius had a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning as New York beat Boston. Five days after allowing season highs of six runs and 10 hits in Fenway Park, Eovaldi allowed two runs and six hits, struck out six without a walk and threw 77 of 107 pitches for strikes. He faced Ortiz twice with the bases empty and once with a runner on first and retired the designated hitter each time. Rangers 10, Tigers 5 Adrian Beltre hit a pair of two-run homers and Texas belted five home runs to overpower slumping Detroit. Rougned Odor and Nomar Mazara blasted first-inning homers and Mitch Moreland delivered a go-ahead, two-run shot during a five-run sixth for the Rangers. Texas starter A.J. Athletics 8, Orioles 4, Game 1 Orioles 5, Athletics 2, Game 2 Ubaldo Jimenez went eight innings and gave up just two runs and showed the type of control and command Baltimore hoped for when they signed him two years ago Chris Davis hit a two-run homer as Baltimore salvaged a split in the day-night doubleheader. Mariners 3, Astros 2, 10 innings Robinson Cano smacked his second home run of the game in the 10th inning to carry Seattle past Houston. Mariners' starter Nathan Karns dominated for five innings before the Seattle bullpen dodged multiple bullets in handing a 2-1 lead to closer Steve Cishek, who gave up a tying homer to Luis Valbuena. Cishek worked the 10th inning and picked up the win. Brewers 13, Reds 7, 10 innings Aaron Hill homered in three consecutive at-bats, including a 10th-inning grand slam, to lift Milwaukee over Cincinnati. With the score tied 6-6 in the 10th, Hill faced Caleb Cotham and hit his second career grand slam to put the Brewers ahead. It was Hill's sixth career multi-homer game. His seven RBIs tied a franchise record for a game. White Sox 7, Twins 2 Chris Sale recovered from a shaky first inning to dominate Minnesota and become baseball's first seven-game winner. Sale struck out nine and allowed just three hits through seven innings as he retired 19 of the final 20 batters he faced. Erasmo Ramirez earned his sixth win in relief, with Alex Colome registering his eighth save.
