Baseball-Highlights of Saturday's MLB games

April 30 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's Major League Baseball games: Rangers 6, Angels 3 Carlos Gomez hit for the cycle for the second time in his career as the Texas Rangers recorded a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Gomez went 4-for-4 and completed the cycle with his two-run homer in the seventh inning off Jose Valdez that put Texas up 6-2. Gomez doubled in the first, singled in the third and had an RBI triple as part of a four-run fifth inning for the Rangers that saw the club erase a 2-0 deficit. Texas's Yu Darvish (3-2) struck 10 and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings. Dodgers 6, Phillies 5 Adrian Gonzalez hit a walk-off single after Los Angeles homered three consecutive times to open the ninth inning, lifting the Dodgers to a victory over Philadelphia at Dodger Stadium. Phillies closer Hector Neris (0-1) entered the ninth with his club leading 5-2 before serving up consecutive home runs to Yasiel Puig and rookie Cody Bellinger, who hit the second of his first two major league homers. Justin Turner followed as a pinch hitter and delivered his first homer of the season, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 15 games and tying the score at 5. Braves 11, Brewers 3 Matt Kemp hit three home runs and Jaime Garcia worked six innings as Atlanta defeated Milwaukee. Garcia (1-1) battled with his command, walking a season-high five batters, but held the Brewers to a pair of runs while only allowing three hits with three strikeouts. Milwaukee's Jimmy Nelson (1-2) gave up five runs and 11 hits in five innings. The Braves' offense backed him up with a season-best 20-hit performance, including a home run by Dansby Swanson. Atlanta hadn't recorded 20 hits in a game since 2008. Yankees 12, Orioles 4 Aaron Judge slugged his American League-leading 10th home run and scored four times as New York continued its roll with a victory over Baltimore. Judge became the first AL player to reach double digits when he homered into the Yankees bullpen beyond the center field wall on a 1-0 pitch from Jayson Aquino. Before hitting fourth home run against the Orioles, Judge drew two walks and singled. Brett Gardner and Austin Romine combined for three home runs and nine RBIs for New York. The contributions from their leadoff and ninth-place hitters helped the Yankees win for the 14th time in the last 17 games. Rockies 7, Diamondbacks 6 Mark Reynolds tied the game with a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning and Colorado scored the winning run on a wild pitch one batter later to erase a 6-1 deficit and defeat Arizona. Pat Valaika singled to open the ninth, DJ LeMahieu walked and Carlos Gonzalez was intentionally walked after the runners moved up on a ground out before Reynolds tied the game off Fernando Rodney (1-2). Rodney then threw two wild pitches, the second of which scored Gonzalez from third with the go-ahead run. Mets 5, Nationals 3 Michael Conforto homered twice and drove in three runs as New York beat first-place Washington, winning for the second straight day after a six-game losing streak. It was the first career two-homer game for Conforto (3-for-4), whose solo shot in the eighth off Enny Romero gave the Mets a 4-2 lead. Nationals starter and loser Stephen Strasburg (2-1) gave up six hits and three runs with only two strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. Cubs 7, Red Sox 4 Kyle Schwarber's go-ahead RBI single helped spark a three-run seventh inning as Chicago rallied past Boston. Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer, Miguel Montero and Ben Zobrist each added solo shots and Zobrist had another RBI for the Cubs, who pulled even in its three-game series with the Red Sox after Friday's 5-4 loss. Chicago's John Lackey (2-3), who spent three-plus seasons with Boston, gave up four runs and eight hits -- two homers -- and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings. Hanley Ramirez and Andrew Benintendi cracked homers for Boston, with Benintendi adding another RBI and Jackie Bradley Jr. also driving in a run. Pirates 4, Marlins 0 Ivan Nova pitched a three-hit shutout with no walks to lead Pittsburgh to its season-high fourth straight victory. It was the third career shutout for Nova (3-2), who did it twice for the New York Yankees in 2013. Nova, who struck out seven, lowered his ERA to 1.50 after throwing a season-high 95 pitches. The Pirates were led offensively by Gregory Polanco, who went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, one walk and one run scored. John Jaso added a homer, his first of the season, and two RBIs. Athletics 2, Astros 1 Andrew Triggs worked seven shutout innings and Khris Davis belted his fifth home run against Houston this season in Oakland's victory. Triggs (4-1) rebounded splendidly from his worst start of the season, recording a career-high nine strikeouts while limiting the Astros to five hits, all singles. Triggs did not walk a batter and lowered his ERA to 1.84 in his 12th career start, and the seven innings pitched also represented a career high. White Sox 6, Tigers 4 (10 innings) Melky Cabrera hit a home run to lead off the 10th inning and Chicago extended its winning streak to six games by beating slumping Detroit. Cabrera's first homer of the season off Justin Wilson (1-1) gave closer David Robertson (1-0) the victory. Robertson blew a ninth-inning save opportunity by giving up two runs, then pitched a scoreless 10th. Indians 4, Mariners 3 Jose Ramirez and Lonnie Chisenhall had two-run hits in the first inning and Danny Salazar pitched into the seventh inning as Cleveland beat Seattle in a game in which all the runs were scored in the first inning. Salazar (2-2) pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs and three hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Cody Allen pitched the ninth for his sixth save of the season. The Mariners' Yovani Gallardo (1-3) gave up four runs and six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Blue Jays 4, Rays 1 Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer, Francisco Liriano pitched into the sixth inning and Toronto ended a three-game losing streak by defeating Tampa Bay. Liriano (2-2) allowed four hits, four walks and one run and had six strikeouts in five-plus innings. Struggling closer Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect ninth to earn his second save in five opportunities. The Rays' Matt Andriese (1-1) allowed five hits, three walks and four runs (three earned) while striking out four in seven innings. Padres 12, Giants 4 Wil Myers crushed a three-run home run to cap an eight-run sixth inning Saturday night that allowed San Diego to erase a deficit en route to a triumph over San Francisco. Allen Cordoba added a three-run homer of his own as part of a 14-hit attack that allowed the Padres to put up a season-best run total and even the three-game series after having lost the opener 4-3 on Friday night. The Padres exploded against the San Francisco bullpen after Giants starter Matt Cain had pitched five innings of one-run ball and left with a 3-1 lead. (Compiled by Amlan Chakraborty)
