The Spain international was shown his second yellow card of the game in the 77th minute following an altercation with Sofiane Feghouli, having already gone into the referee's book shortly after the interval.
The Catalans feel the 24-year-old's dismissal against his former team was harsh and have consequently opted to launch an appeal.
"Barcelona will appeal Jordi Alba’s red card to the Competition Committee," a statement on the club's official website reads. "The Barcelona left back was shown his second yellow card on 77 minutes for 'knocking down an opponent in a dispute for the ball' according to referee Perez Montero’s post-match referee report.
"The defender was shown his first yellow card on 51 minutes."
Alba's red card was the first for a Barcelona player since last year's Clasico. The Catalans had since gone 52 games without a dismissal.
