It isn't often that the best fullback in the NFL is available on the open market, and all signs pointed to him signing a contract with a new team not too long after his release. But now - almost a month since Leach was released by the Ravens - it seems as if the market for Leach has hit a dry period. No teams are aggressively pursuing Leach, however the Miami Dolphins seem to be a possible suitor.
As each day passes, it becomes more and more apparent that Leach could be reunited with the team that just released him, the Ravens.
Baltimore opted to release Leach due to his $3 million base salary, and with a tight salary cap situation, releasing him created some much-needed breathing room financially. The Ravens did offer Leach a new salary that would pay him less in 2013, which he declined, leading to the release.
The fact that Leach has tested the open market for several weeks and still hasn't signed a contract likely means no other teams are offering him more than what the Ravens offered prior to his release. If he wants to stay on a Super Bowl contender while making the most money possible, the 32-year-old All-Pro should consider a return to Baltimore.
According to reports, the Ravens have a standing offer for Leach, making his return possible if that is his intention. However, the same reports point out that the Dolphins are still an intriguing option for Leach, and if the Dolphins ultimately give Leach the best contract offer, he'd likely sign Miami, a playoff-contending team in its own right.
Miami may not provide Leach with the opportunity to win another Super Bowl like Baltimore would, but for a player whose positional value is rapidly declining, he could be entering the twilight of his career, making money a priority.
Ultimately, if the Dolphins don't offer Leach a lucrative enough deal to lure him away from a possible return to Baltimore, don't be surprised to see him in a Ravens uniform again in 2013.
