Redskins' Jackson quietly putting together strong season

Former first-round pick DE Kentwan Balmer was not at Redskins training camp for a second day in a row.

On Wednesday, head coach Mike Shanahan told reporters that Balmer’s absence was unexcused and that he didn’t know why Balmer wasn’t at practice.

In 2010, Balmer was an unexcused absence from 49ers camp, and San Francisco traded him to Seattle. He also spent time with Carolina before joining the Redskins. Last season, Balmer played in three games.

The Niners drafted Balmer with the 29th overall pick in 2008. He has played in 46 games and recorded 62 tackles and zero sacks.
