Avs' Giguere takes leave of absence

The SportsXchange

Colorado Avalanche goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere has taken a personal leave of absence from the team and will miss Saturday's game against the Oilers in Edmonton, according to the Denver Post.

A team spokesman told the Post that the 35-year-old Giguere, who is 2-0-0 with a 2.48 goals against average, is expected to re-join the team on Sunday.

Semyon Varlamov has been the Avalanche's primary goalie this season, and the Avs have called up Calvin Pickard from AHL Lake Erie to take Giguere's place as a backup.
