Goalie Semyon Varlamov is scheduled to start for the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night in Dallas one day after being released from jail and two days after being arrested on charges of second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault of someone he knew.

Varlamov was arrested on Wednesday on allegations of domestic violence, according to the Denver Post. He spent the night in jail after turning himself in to police.

Varlamov's bond was set at $5,000. On Thursday he was released and granted permission to travel with the Avalanche. He also had a restraining order filed.

Colorado head coach Patrick Roy said after Friday's morning skate that Varlamov will be the starter Friday night against the Stars.

"Why wait?" Roy said. "We're all aware of what happened, but we just feel that he's our guy. We have confidence in him and feel that it's good for him to play tonight."

It's possible the NHL could get involved. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman can suspend a player who is involved in a criminal investigation.

"At this point, we are monitoring the developing legal situation and do not intend to intervene in that process," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said, according to ESPN. "There may come a point in time where we feel it is either necessary or appropriate to take a different approach, but that's not where we are right now. We are and will remain in close contact with the club, and will see how the underlying facts unfold."
