Club chief executive Keith Thomas on Monday identified the player as John McCarthy, telling local media that the 22-year-old ''had been involved in a fatal accident.''
A group of 11 Port players left Adelaide on Saturday for a vacation in the United States. The Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported earlier that a player fell from a balcony at the Flamingo Hotel and was discovered on a driveway about 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Las Vegas time.
Thomas told a news conference that it was his understanding McCarthy had fallen from a building, but said details of the accident were unclear.
McCarthy played in 21 matches in 2012 for Port Adelaide, which plays in the top-flight Australian Football League.
