The August 2012 Detroit Tigers' schedule is one where the team has got to take advantage of some weaker opponents. They have some really tough games as well, though, making the opening two weeks of August extremely important.
The Tigers finished up the month of July with a 54-50 record, putting them three games behind the Chicago White Sox in the loss column. While they have created some separation between themselves and the Cleveland Indians, the Tigers have to start out August strong to widen that gap.
In the first two weeks of the month, Detroit has to play the Indians, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers in a really tough 10-game stretch. Going 7-3 in those games would go a long ways toward the playoff push, especially if the Tigers want to catch the White Sox for an American League Central crown.
