Starting pitcher Kyle Weiland has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder bursitis, the Houston Astros announced Friday.
An MRI showed no structural damage to Weiland's shoulder, general manager Jeff Luhnow said. Weiland hasn't started since Sunday, though he did play as a pinch-runner Thursday.
The Astros have called up left-handed reliever Fernando Abad from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Weiland's roster spot.
Also, infielder Marwin Gonzalez was placed on the paternity list and Brian Bixler was called up from Oklahoma City.
