Asomugha set to retire as a Raider
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will end his career where it began, with the Oakland Raiders.
The longtime Raiders star will officially announce his retirement Friday at the Raiders' headquarters in Alameda, Calif.
Asomugha, 32, played the first three games of the 2013 season for the San Francisco 49ers, making two tackles. He then missed a game due to a knee injury, was a healthy scratch for four weeks and was released in early November.
A first-round pick of Oakland out of nearby Cal-Berkeley in 2003, Asomugha spent eight years with the Raiders, receiving two first-team All-Pro designations and playing in three Pro Bowls.
Asomugha joined the Eagles as a free agent in 2011, but he viewed as a disappointment during his two-year stint in Philadelphia.
Asomugha tied for third in the NFL with a career-high eight interceptions in 2006. The previous year, he posted his career best with 14 passes defensed. In 157 career games (131 starts), he made 15 interceptions, broke up 72 passes and recorded two sacks.
For the retirement ceremony, the Raiders are bringing back three other top former defensive backs: Willie Brown, Lester Hayes and Charles Woodson.
