Arizona 73, Arizona State 58

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona sophomore guard Nick Johnson scored a team-high 17 points, including seven in a row in a key second-half stretch, as the 18th-ranked Wildcats ended their regular season by beating Arizona State 73-58 at McKale Center on Saturday.

UCLA's victory at Washington earlier in the day meant Arizona (24-6 overall, 12-6 Pac-12) couldn't share the conference regular-season championship. The Wildcats ended in a three-way tie for second with Oregon and California, but they lose the tiebreakers against both schools and will be the fourth seed in the Pac-12 tournament that begins Wednesday in Las Vegas. The top four seeds get a bye in the first round.

Arizona State (20-11, 9-9) ended the regular season on a four-game losing streak.

ASU trimmed a 15-point halftime deficit to 50-45 with 10:46 left on a layup by Chris Colvin. But Johnson scored the game's next seven points -- on a 3-pointer, two free throws and a layup -- to put the Wildcats back in control.

Arizona's lead never dipped into the single digits after that, and the Cats pushed the lead to 23 points with about two minutes to go.

Kevin Parrom had 13 points for Arizona, Solomon Hill added 12, and center Kaleb Tarczewski had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. Arizona outrebounded ASU 35-23.

Senior wing Carrick Felix led ASU with 22 points, but he didn't have enough help, especially after three players fouled out with more than four minutes to play. Jahii Carson scored 15 points. The rest of ASU managed just 21.

Arizona ended the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 40-25 lead at the break. Jordin Mayes scored the final four points of the half, making a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left and converting 1 of 2 free throws with 0.6 seconds remaining after making a steal. The score marked ASU's largest halftime deficit of the season.

The Wildcats took their first lead at 7-5 on Parrom's 3-pointer, which helped fuel a 10-0 spurt. ASU struggled with turnovers (nine) and offensive rebounding (one) through the half, and the Sun Devils scored just 10 points in the final 11 minutes.
