Anton Volchenkov: (Foot) Out Four-To-Six Weeks

Update: Volchenkov fractured a bone in his foot while playing for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod of the KHL and could be out four-to-six weeks, the Bergen County Record reports.

Recommendation: Volchenkov's agent, Jay Grossman, says the fracture took place on a small bone on the inside part of Volchenkov's foot. Grossman said he didn't expect him to be out for the four-to-six week timetable given by Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. "Their doctors have told him that it's not expected he would miss that much time," Grossman said. "It just depends on how responds. But, going from the way it's been explained to me by Anton, it's an unfortunate situation, but it doesn't sound like it's going to be any kind of major, long-term issue." The NHL and the NHLPA are still trying to reach an agreement this week to begin the regular season Nov. 2, meaning Volchenkov would likely be unavailable when the season begins. If Volchenkov is still recovering when play resumes, the team can suspend him without pay until he's able to play.
