Anquan Boldin on officials: 'Crap cost us another game'

San Francisco has lost two straight, the latest a 23-14 decision against division-rival Arizona. The 49ers, now slotted third in the NFL West, also have wide receiver Anquan Boldin complaining about the officiating.

"For me, it’s been obvious the last two weeks: The amount of calls that have gone against us and the amount of calls that we’ve gotten hasn’t been close," Boldin said, via the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows. "Every week, it’s the same thing -- send the tape in, the NFL just reports back, ‘We made a mistake.’ But at the same time, the crap cost us another game. At some point, they need to be held accountable."

The 49ers were flagged 16 times in last week's loss to the Bears and penalized nine more times Sunday against the Cardinals. And while it is advisable to try to avoid bellyaching about the officials -- primarily because it makes you sound like a sore loser -- Boldin's right to wonder why teammate Patrick Willis received a personal-foul penalty for his shoulder-to-chest hit on Arizona quarterback Drew Stanton.

It's a fair concern and one that should be addressed. But there's no defense for Boldin head-butting Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson, though Boldin offered one anyway.

"(I) told the coach that (Jefferson had been taking shots all game); told the ref that three times," Boldin said. '"Oh, I didn’t see it. I’ll look for it.’ But as soon as we do something, wow, you see it. But when guys are doing crap to us, 'We didn’t catch it.'"

The good news is that we're only three games into the season. The bad news is that the defense sorely misses Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman, and questions remain about quarterback Colin Kaepernick's consistency from one play to the next. Things don't get any easier this week when the Eagles come to town.
