Pitcher Tommy Hanson was not only removed from the Los Angeles Angels starting rotation, he was sent down to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, MLB.com reported.
The move made room for left-hander Jason Vargas, who is expected to come off the disabled list on Tuesday.
Hanson, 26, is 4-3 this season with a 5.59 earned-run average in 13 games, all as a starter for the Angels.
His most recent start was August 7, when he allowed seven hits, three walks and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Hanson is making $3.725 million this season and will be eligible for arbitration this winter.
