Update: Bynum had his $16.1 million option for 2012-2013 picked up on Monday, ESPN Los Angeles reports.
Recommendation: As expected, the Lakers picked up Bynum's option before the June 30 deadline, allowing Bynum to avoid free agency. Bynum and the Lakers have not engaged in any long-term contract extension discussions at this point but his agent "anticipated" those talks to take place sometime during the offseason.
