Anderson Varejao came off the bench and put up 18 points and added 13 rebounds, his 4th double-double of the season, to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a victory over the Denver Nuggets, 98-88. This is only the 3rd win for Cleveland (6-12) in its last 10 games.
Varejao finished 7-9, in a solid outing. Cleveland also got solid performances from Tristan Thompson with 17 points and 21 rebounds, and Andrew Bynum with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Despite the loss, Randy Foye scored 16 points for Denver on 4-8 shooting (3-6 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 5-5 from the free throw line. Wilson Chandler chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The Nuggets posted an eFG% of just 42.4%, including 26.1% from 3-point range. This year, they are 1-1 when they record marks below 45% and 30% in those respective categories. On the other hand, the Cavaliers are 3-1 when holding their opponents to such low percentages.
This loss snaps a 7-game winning streak for Denver, dropping them to 11-7 on the year.
Coming up next, the Cavaliers take on the Atlanta Hawks, who are 9-10 on the year. The Nuggets meet the Boston Celtics, currently 8-12 this season.
