Ancelotti talks up benefits of preseason competition

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised the club's preseason preparation in the United States this summer, extolling the two-fold sporting and marketing virtues of the Guinness International Champions Cup.

On a conference call with reporters, the two-time European Cup winner talked up the preseason schedule, and dismissed the idea that touring the USA did little to help his club.

"It's a benefit for us," Ancelotti said. "We want to improve our condition, and it's important to play important games against strong teams.

"The second way is to improve our brand, to show a good dimension of football."

Ancelotti also appreciates the different kind of competition that arises from playing both an MLS team in the middle of its season and European sides preparing for their campaigns. Los Blancos will take on the LA Galaxy in Phoenix on Aug. 1 before a matchup with another European side -- either Juventus or Everton -- at Dodger Stadium in LA on Aug. 3.

"It's not strange, because we are used to this. There are a lot of European teams that go to the USA to play. It's a good plan for us, to play these kinds of games, against Los Angeles, and after that, we can play against the European teams.

"The climate is good for us."
